News Summary (June 29th)
- Mixed Weather: To summarise the weather forecast for this week - sunshine and showers offering limited flying opportunities.
- Arran Round: Early notice that the Arran round of the Scottish Nationals scheduled for 4/5 July has now been postponed. We hope to reschedule this event for later in the flying season - details will be posted when they are finalised.
The next planned weekend is the Highland round, due to take place on 11th & 12th July. Watch the LLSC Group for details.
- Military Flying: Operation Hawk Owl last week buzzed the eastern skies with an impressive array of military helicopters. If you don;t want to come face to face with a Chinook or Tornado, the MOD has a couple of useful web pages giving information about Special Exercises along with the planned timetable of Monthly Low Flying Activities for the UK.
- LLSC Newsletter: Did you get your newsletter this month? You will need this to get access to the members area of the website. There have been a handful of failed email addresses - so if any club members are still waiting for their copy, contact website@llsclub.org.uk to let us know.

Articles
Every month we will publish a new article, if available of course, so the club is always looking for interesting articles on Scottish flying. This month we feature a very relevant discussion on Spring Flying. There is also an archive of previously published articles, both recent and not so recent (do you remember the Flying Scot?).
Sites Guide
The club Sites Guide provides a list of available sites by wind direction (or wind directions by site) along with the usual general site info. This is now in the process of being revised and incorporated into the new website with the addition of more sites to the guide. Watch out for the new version when it becomes available.
In the meantime, how about a wee teaser? The best-known LLSC sites are Tinto and Broughton, both near Biggar, but there are also some really good lesser-known sites too. Anyone recognise these? Send your answers to mailto:info@llsclub.org.uk?subject=Hills
About LLSCLanarkshire and Lothian Soaring Club promotes safe flying for paragliders and hangliders in Scotland, and in particular around Glasgow and Edinburgh. Safety comes with experience, and all pilots are encouraged to improve their skills and knowledge through regular club activities including training and coaching sessions.
The club hosts a national forum for all Scottish pilots and those interested in free flying in Scotland.
Flying in ScotlandScotland is a beautiful country to fly in with surprisingly many different options for such a small area. The current Scottish distance record for a paraglider is 126km, and was cut short due to running out of land! As a whole, there are very few airspace restrictions across the country, with the exception of the Central Belt between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Please ensure you are fully aware of any agreements and potential restrictions in force before you fly.
LLSC is an active member in the Scottish Hangliding and Paragliding Federation (SHPF).
